Intro

Hello guys! I know its been a really long time since I have released a copy of Sympa UI however I havn’t put down the game Rather I’ve been developing on my own and changing a few things up. Thus Sympa UI has gone through some of its changes and its now at Sympa UI 10 (but we will call it X because its just that cool). I have a few screenshots for you guys including Idle, action, and setup. Things have been pruned, moved, and changed in general.

About

A few of you are already familiar with the layout of my UI and the reasons for it but many are not. The core of my UI is set up in a single vertical column to the right of my character. This allows me to set up a hierarchy of content and designate and artificial space within which to organize. In setting up my UI I really had to think about what I needed and where. I happened at the time to be reading an article about brain function, left lobe handling information that functioned anaylitically, usually favored information being seen from the right field of vision. Thus the right single column was born.

Non essentials have moved around through different iterations but I have finally decided on simply mirroring the right vertical column with a left column of the nonessentials (chat/recount/map). The core of the UI though remains the right column. Depending on the class I play I will change out the midsection to accommodate the class, a healer would use raid frames, a dk magicrunes, and a hunter eventhorizon. The UI is currently set up specifically tailored for a Hunter. Should you wish to exent the U to fit your class Good Luck.

Features

Key to Sympa UI. Sympa UI version X has been upgraded with a range of new features including some nice details. In this release I will also be including the long sought after fonts used within the UI. When lock and load is procc’ed you will see a timer to the left of your player frame in parenthesis indicating the amount of time you have left on lock and load. I’ve added this snipped because I didn’t feel that addon another addon for notification was really necessary (eg PowerAuras or NeedToKnow). This number will change from orange, to yellow, to red as the time diminishes. Another Side-touch I have added is the addition of TipTac to place tooltip information squarely at the bottom of the screen and out of the way. A last little touch is the addition of Parrot to display scrolling data of outgoing damage. All other notifications are turned off except outgoing damage. Lastly Pitbull has also been upgraded to version 4

Setup

You will need to unzip the SympaUIX.zip folder. Drag and drop the three folders within that directory to your world of warcraft folder. Before loading the game Go into your new WTF folder and change the varios folder names to match your account name, server name, and character name. If you do not do this the UI will not work. Once in game the UI may still not be properly set up, to do this you will ave to go down the list of addons and load the profile, Lieca – Silver Hand. You will most likely have to do this for the following addons: Pitbull, KGpanels, Prat, Bison, SLdatatext, Quartz. For most of these addons you simply have to type /addonname config to set them up.

Disclaimer

I take 0 responsibility for assissting anyone with the setup of this user interface. I highly recommend that the users of this UI do some homework on basic addon information before installing. I also recommend making a backup of your existing Interface, Fonts, and WTF folder. I hold no garantees and claim to be no guru, I simply am submitting my UI as per a large demand.

Last Thoughts

Lastly… I hope you enjoy it.

    Hey Sympa,

    Thanks for your UI!
I was like “what kind of strange shit is this” at first, but after looking at the pictures a couple of times and reading your notes on it, I kinda begin to like it.

However, only from looking at it, I have some questions:

    a) It seems that you’re not using any bars for your skills, apart from the obvious 12 buttons at the top. How are you able to handle your rotation properly? Do you have every single Shot in your Rotation hotkeyed? What about the spells not covered by Event Horizon? I have trimmed my UI down to 25 Spells/Buttons, but I kinda need every single one of them.

You can find my UI here:

    b) How are you able to monitor your threat correctly without the use of Omen / RecountThreat? I find it quite hard to play without Omen – especially in the beginning of an encounter or on threatdifficult encounters like Razorscale.

Hello there! So I’ll address your questions in the order asked. You are correct that I have all of my shots hot-keyed and that the bar is hidden. Traps and aspects are both macro’ed to button specific clicks. Left click is one spell right click is another, on and on we go. Both of those are in the lower right hand corner of those visible buttons you noted. Additionally, about omen. Within pitbull there is a threat bar, about the hight of the mana bar. This is only displayed while in combat and shows in my player frame. The bar increases as you gain threat and turns red when you have aggro. Hope this explains a bit!

As for your own UI it looks as if most of it is concentrated on the bottom. The best recommendation I could give you would to be to clean up some of the information being displayed in the middle. At the moment I imagine it’d be a bit distracting.

Very nice. I love the minimalistic feel that this UI has going for it. When i first looked at it i honestly thought it was trash but after reading the notes and glancing at the screenshots i see that it is very well put together. also reading that note about the brain and analytical data makes me want to redo my UI. I might have to adapt something similar to yours but not too much. I really like the font and the Buff bars for example which is something i will have to implement to my UI. :D

    Nice job

Nice, clean look. Shrink the action bar tho; doesn’t need to be so big. The blind spots would keep me from ever using this kind of layout in a raid, however. Indoors, where your camera’s not zoomed so far back, you’re going to have big problems with situational awareness.

    Nice organization of elements, too.

  5. admin says:

Honestly I’ve never had any problems with blind spots. Everything has an alpha so there are no solid blocks.

    Hi there Sympa,

Thank you for your hard work in desigining and uploading this UI.
I tried to download it and set it up like you said but many of the addons are missing the Leica profile.

Just thought you might want to know.

    Hey Sympa,

I tried to setup your UI, but the import failed miserably. I then copied the stuff manually with leaving my original configs where they are and it worked fine.

Sadly, I cant work with EventHorizon… Way to much going on there ;)

I have one last question though, how did you position your minimap there with all the infos (like time etc. outside positioned). I just cant seem to get that working…

    Thanks alot!

  8. Awake says:

    Hey Sympa,
Thanks so much for uploading your UI! Added Magicrunes and Grid for my DK and Druid and now use this UI across all my toons!

@Riemu, the Info Sympa has outside the map is not part of Sexymap. It is SLDT so use that config to place the clock Etc.-Hope that helps

with your release of X it seemed possible to finally get it working for me, the previous ones always broke for me and woudlnt function at all. i had the same issues with your X but one day it just seemed to work after trying for the 12th time to get how i wanted.

here is how i set it up :)

I reveresed the order of player and target UF, i like target on top :) and i moved dps meters to the bottom and made another panel and omen shows there when its not hidden. :D

    Sympa,

Great UI. I have been looking for a logical UI for a long time and you pushed me in, what I believe is, the correct direction.

Instead of just DLing your files, I’ve decided to take the time to take the elements from your UI and design one that works for me.

Just have a couple of question.
Did you place the mods (minimap, recount, and chat) on the left side because you that space was available or do you feel it really adds value there?

This is currently a work in progress. I am going to hide my action bars. Not sure exactly where to put on the right side, but my guess is it will be either grid (for healers), omen (for tanking), and boss mods.

I will most likely not display recount. I only check recount after the mob is dead. I will get rid of the combat log. This leaves me with one ugly chat box to put somewhere. I guess bottom right. I hardly check it during combat anyways.

    Thanks for this UI!

It used to be a problem where to put things and I never found anything that perfectly suited my needs. This one however feels natural, so to speak.

The only modifications I made was moving the chatframe to the lower left and the I got grid for raidframes in the upper left. (I’m raidleading so I wan’t to see what my minions are up to.)

The modified EventHorizon is also more logical then the original one. Especially the order of the skill.

    Az.

PS: I’m using this on a 17″ monitor and the size wasn’t a problem at all.
